Concrete Pipe and Precast Association of Australasia is the evolution of Concrete Pipe Association of Australasia

Same organisation. Same intention.
Broader impact.

In September the CPAA formally became the Concrete Pipe and Precast Association of Australasia (CPPAA), a new name which represents the breadth of manufacturing and expertise it represents across concrete pipe and associated precast products such as box culverts, headwalls, pits and access systems.

For almost 60 years the CPAA has been a voice for our industry providing value to its members by navigating industry collaboration, appropriate specification and industry challenges through advocacy and member support.  Its vision is ‘the continued adoption of resilient, sustainable and durable concrete pipe and associated precast products ensuring 100-year design life provides value and assured performance’.

“Representing a wider range of precast products enables a stronger advocacy position when engaging with government bodies, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders and this can lead to more comprehensive policies and standards that benefit the entire industry,” says Association Chair Andrew Moss, CEO of Hynds Pipe Systems New Zealand. “A broader association identity helps unify the industry under one banner, creating a stronger collective voice.”

What’s changing

  • Our organisational identity is transitioning to Concrete Pipe and Precast Association of Australasia
  • A new visual identity will be introduced
  • Our membership will be extended beyond pipe and precast manufacturers to related organisations who contribute to and are involved in pipeline infrastructure

What’s not changing

  • Membership benefits and community
  • Our commitment to and sector education, collaboration and leadership
  • Our offerings and initiatives, including our industry-leading pipeline design software PIPECLASS3 and our various training initiatives

FAQs

Why change the name 60 years after the Association was formed?

The Association has evolved with time and the new name better reflects the breadth of expertise we represent.

Although the Association was originally formed with concrete pipe as its primary focus, the natural progression was for our remit to include other precast products related to the creation of pipeline and culvert infrastructure. The new Association name will properly convey to the industry where our expertise and efforts are focused.

Why ‘Pipe and Precast’? What does this mean?

Concrete pipe is just one element of sustainable water infrastructure – it rarely, if ever, works alone.

It was important to us to formally acknowledge that we represent associated precast products such as box culverts, headwalls, pits and access systems – ie a complete pipeline infrastructure system as opposed to a single product.

What’s the link between CPPAA and National Precast Association?

Our Association focuses on a discrete sector of precast – simply put, precast products involved in the flow of water. We complement rather than compete with the NPCAA. We will continue to work with the NPCAA as we have done and together support the precast industry as a whole.

Why Australasia? And what does that mean in terms of this Association?

Our members are the key concrete pipe and pipeline precast products manufacturers currently operating across both NZ and Australia – which gives us a stronger voice with industry regulators and influencers.  Our geographical focus remains unchanged.

Practices, standards and design processes are similar in both NZ and Australia and the combined resources of the Association and its cross-Tasman members ensures continued harnessing of experience and expertise to share with industry and provide leadership around the manufacture, design and application of precast pipeline infrastructure products.

Will this change mean the CPPAA will seek other members who manufacture precast products, but not necessarily concrete pipe?

The goal is to be the voice of the entire industry as the industry is stronger standing together to promote the continued use of concrete pipe and precast as the products of choice.  All manufacturers and suppliers will be encouraged to join the association.

Does the name/brand change materially change what the CPPAA does or how it operates?

Under the new brand, it will be business as usual however the increased scale will underpin more resources.  We will continue to promote concrete pipe and precast as the preferred choice but with more clarity and purpose.
