As part of Holcim’s focus on minimising emissions and reducing its carbon footprint, Humes* is installing solar power systems across a number of its sites.
With a total annual capacity of approx 1.1m kWh, the combined systems generate enough energy to offset the electricity demand of Blacktown in Western Sydney, which is the location of one of Hume’s largest production facilities.
The solar power systems installed at Townsville, Rockhampton and Ipswich in Queensland; Tamworth and Blacktown in NSW; Laverton and Echuca in Victoria; Pooraka in South Australia; Darwin in the Northern Territory; and in Welshpool in Western Australia.
At sites such as Pooraka in South Australia, the local team is able to monitor energy consumption and generation. Pleasingly, Humes Pooraka is frequently energy positive – producing more energy than is consumed at the site.
